Dynamic Women of Des Moines

Tuesday, March 26th

Guest Speaker

Pam Williams
Co-Founder, Isiserettes Drill & Drum Corp

Over the last 39 years, the Isiserettes have served over 3,000 youth in Central Iowa. The drill and drum corp has appeared at events and in parades around the state of Iowa and has also traveled across the United States showcasing their talents at two presidential inaugerations, the White House Easter Egg Roll, the Kentucky Derby Parade and the Veteran's Day Parade in New York.

Join us in March as Pam Williams, one of the original co-founders of the Isiserettes shares how a group of women poured their passion into making sure that the youth in our community focused on their education and had opportunities to build character as well as develop their creative abilities -- even when the "nay-sayers" said it couldn't be done.

Today, Williams is handing the reigns over to the next generation and has full confidence that the legacy pride, and tradition of the Isiserettes will live on for many years to come.

Pam Williams
Co-Founder, Isiserettes Drill & Drum Corp

Pamela Marie Williams was born and raised here in Des Moines, Iowa. She has been involved in shaping and developing the minds of Des Moines’ inner city youth and has spent the last 39 years working to improve the quality of life for African American families.

A community activist, Williams is the former President of the Woodland Wilkie Board, The Community Support Force, and the School Based Council at Roosevelt High School. She has also been a member of the Board of Directors for Mid City Visions, The John R. Grubb YMCA and a member of Concerned Citizens for Justice, as well as Sisters on Target.

Williams also devoted many years to The Young Women’s Resource Center as well as a young mothers group in the FADS program at the YWCA.

The Isiserettes have been together for over 39 years and it’s because of the hard work and determination of Williams, along with a host of other women and instructors that this organization has become so influential in keeping the youth of Des Moines in school and giving them the opportunities to be successful.

The National Black Child Development Institute awarded Williams for greatly contributing to making life better for the children of Des Moines, Iowa, and she was also given the Leading the Way award by KCCI-TV for her volunteer services. She also received the Urban Dreams Quarter Century Award, the 2002 Creative Vision Community Award, an award from The Des Moines Chapter of Linx for her contribution to African Americans in the Arts, and was the 2012 Recipient of the Porter Dimery Sr. Youth Award.
