About this event
This event is open to all members of TRS/WoTRS/ECC.
Race has become a dominant and vital subject of artists today. In particular, a growing number of women of color have been taking control of their own image. Mickalene Thomas, Elizabeth Colomba, Renée Cox, Awol Erizku, Lorraine O’Grady, Faith Ringgold and Carrie Mae Weems among others, critically engage with issues of race and gender as they deconstruct and expand the hallowed genre of the nude and the black female subject.
In her presentation, Dr. Lauren Jimerson, an art historian whose research examines modern art in France and the U.S., will feature a highly discerning selection of recent work by both established and emerging by artists of color. We will learn about their novel techniques and approaches in various media, and uncover how they critically examine and re-present past themes and ideas in order to shift our perspectives of the present.
Please register by 10:00 AM on February 6. You will receive the Zoom link via email upon registration.
