Event description

Description

World Water Monitoring Challenge, West Valley Elementary School, Sunnyvale

Come learn more about the watershed in which you live, how watersheds work, and what you can do to protect important creek habitat.

Who: This is a great activity for young families, students looking for volunteer hours, and community members who are just plain curious about their local creek. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but minors under 18 require a signed waiver and those under high school age require an accompanying adult unless prior approval is obtained. Preregistration is required.

What: Volunteers are invited to come help us determine the quality of water in Stevens Creek with monitoring activities which are easy and fun to carry out. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about watersheds and do a bit of biomonitoring by looking at which aquatic bugs live in this part of the creek - finding too many pollution tolerant bugs could mean a pollution problem.

Where: Please park in front of West Valley Elementary School and then walk back through the school grounds to the area by the creek. We will be near the pedestrian bridge.

Bring: Volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a signed waiver. Please wear comfy shoes.

Groups larger than four: Please contact Jeremy Merckling at Jeremy@grassrootsecology.org to make special arrangements.
