Event Details

The Second World War was the deadliest and most destructive war in history. It cost more than 50 million lives and included genocide and the deployment of atomic bombs. This CLE uses 5 case studies from World War II to examine the Laws of War: the Axis and Allied Bombing Campaigns in Europe; the U.S. Navy's submarine campaign against Japan and Germany; the Japanese treatment of Allied POWs; the atomic bombing of Japan; and the Holocaust and Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal. This CLE explains how the modern Laws of War evolved out of the Second World War to become a coherent but also highly controversial and contested body of international and national law that governs military operations today.

Approved for one hour of CLE credit.
