Event description

Description

San Antonio, TX: On November 10, 2017, the County Line Community Band will perform their “WWI Remembrance Concert” at the University of the Incarnate Word at 6:30pm in the amazing Luella Bennack Concert Hall. One hundred years ago, the United States formally entered the “War To End All Wars.” We have partnered with the Texas World War I Commission to highlight the contributions music made in the war effort. Hundreds of Americans served as musicians and brought American music to Europe. The famous all African American 369th Infantry Division “Hellfighters” Band brought Jazz to the ears of the Parisians under the baton of their famous bandleader James Reese Europe. The war gave birth to numerous famous songs from the era such as “Over There” and “St. Louis Blues.” All of these songs will be performed during the concert with historical background being presented by War re-enactors, historical displays by the San Antonio public Library and memorabilia displays from the era.

The director of the band is 26 year Army Veteran and San Antonio native, Mr Toby Knight. He has brought together a program to highlight the contributions WWI Music played during the war to raise morale of the troops, insight patriotism in the hearts of Americans and build bridges between our allies through music. This Concert is presented in conjunction with Veterans Day and will prove to be an event not to miss!
