As the Hackspace has recently expanded, there may well be more spaces opening up. If you want to be told if more spaces do open up, please email me at email@example.com
Why should Cambridge have all the fun? I propose a gamejam in London.
We're planning on having this the weekend after World of Love (so the 29th and 30th of January), at the London Hackspace. Plan is to turn up, and make as many games as is possible during the day. There may well be themed mini-jams, too. Then go to the pub.
If you need accomodation in London, please get in touch - there will be people willing to put you up. Or, at the very least, you can stay in a hostel with other likeminded Indies.
If you're not going to World of Love, we don't care. Come make games anyway!
About the hackspace
The space has a kitchenette, some sofas, a beer fridge, many fun tools (like a laser cutter and a 3d printer) and an arcade machine (with Puzzle Bobble on it). It also has desks and internet, but that's less exciting.
Access is through the main vehicle gates on Cremer Street. Turn right into the loading bay, go through the door on the right and up to the second floor, then follow the signs for unit 24.
The gamejam is this weekend! I am excited! Are you?
So the plan is to arrive from about 10am - don't worry if you can't make it from exactly then. We will settle down, say hi to each other, have a wander and a gawp of the hackspace, and then start making games.
A vague theme for the weekend will be "peripherals". Because there's a lot of hardware knocking about the Hackspace - there's a Kinect, there's some Wiimotes, there's some webcams. I'll be bringing a little stuff from mine, so if you want to make games on this theme, you may wish to bring something yourself. The theme is pretty optional - if you want to make something entirely within normal input methods go for it. Equally, As you may know the Global Game Jam is on this weekend, you're free to join in with the Global Game Jam theme and submit for that. (I'm afraid we're not going to be following their schedule very closely otherwise.)
I think it'd be nice to do some 3 hour jams throughout the weekend - we'll pick some themes out of a hat for this, and again, if you're in the grip of making another game feel free to give it a miss.
For lunch, we can either do a Tesco run, or there are some lovely Vietnamese places round the corner. there's a fridge, kettle, microwave, George Foreman, dishwasher etc at the space, so it's pretty habitable.
And then on Saturday night we'll go to the pub, where I will have booked a room. Does anyone know any good pubs around that area? If not I will find one using the internet and see if I can book a table or small function room for us.
And then on Sunday we can come back and do it all again.
So now, some questions for you:
1) Can you no longer attend? There are a couple of people on a waiting list for tickets, and so if you can't turn up, it'd be good to turn the tickets over.
2) Do you have any chairs we can borrow? We have a bit more desk space than we have chairs for them, and that's currently the limiting factor on attendance. No worries if not, this is just a random pleading cry.
3) Do you need accommodation? I have some couch space, as other people may have.
4) Do you have any questions?
So yeah, I believe that is a large extent of the plans for the weekend. let me know if you have any questions or apprehensions, and I'll see you there! (or at World of Love, if you're coming to that - come up and say hi!)
