Event description
World Polyphony Singing Workshop and Concert

About this Event

Culomba celebrates the diverse and universal human experience of singing. Inspired by rigorous study and personal experience with many different singing traditions, Sophie Michaux, Adam Jacob Simon, Lysander Jaffe, Sora Harris-Vincent, and Avery Sherman came together to bring this music to new audiences. We each draw on our own musical passions and expertise, with repertoire spanning American folk traditions, music of Georgia, Corsica, the Balkans, and South Africa, early music, and original compositions.

Singing workshop 5-6:30 pm, $5-25(suggested)

Potluck: 6.30-7.15

Concert 7:30 pm, $5-25(suggested)

Workshop + Concert combo $10-45 (suggested)

In our workshop (5-6:30 pm), we will explore many styles of harmony singing, from easy rounds to American gospel to Balkan folk songs, in a fun and supportive environment. Singers of all levels of experience are welcome. All music will be taught by ear, with each voice part supported by a Culomba singer. At our concert, workshop participants will be invited to perform these songs alongside us.

The concert begins at 7:30 pm, and will feature a dazzling array of vocal harmonies from American folk traditions, Georgia, the Balkans, Mediterranean, and South Africa, madrigals, and original music.

This event is hosted by New Surry Theatre
