Join us for our exclusive Educator Meetup at the 2013 World Maker Faire New York!
On Thursday, Sept 19, 2013 from 4pm to 7pm, you're invited to spend the afternoon with fellow educators. We will have a number of hands-on activities and projects for you to try out, dive into, and take back into your classroom, tours of the grounds as they're being set up for the Maker Faire, opportunities for mingling and idea-sharing, and conversations with Dale Dougherty, founder and CEO of Maker Media, and Margaret Honey, president and CEO of the New York Hall of Science.
Snacks and beverages will also be provided.
We will also be offering two special hands-on Arduino workshops, led by a member of Arduino!
The 2-hour workshops (one from 3:30-5:30pm, another from 6-8pm) will be an Arduino introduction for educators, focused on how to install Arduino on laptops, how to write Arduino programs, and how to connect various sensors and actuators (LEDs, motors, speakers) to Arduino. We will also discuss how Arduino can be used in the classroom to teach subjects closely related to Arduino (e.g. electronics, programming, physical computing, and interactive design) as well as to augment a range of science, technology, engineering, and math topics.
** Please bring your laptop and Arduino kit (any kit, or at the very least, an Arduino and breadboard will do). We will have Make's "Getting Started with Arduino" kits for sale, and we will have a very limited number of kits and laptops available to lend.
Please note that the first workshop from 3:30-5:30pm does start BEFORE the actual Educator Meetup itself. Both workshops will cover the same material; please sign up for just one workshop!
Current event itinerary:
3:30-5:30pm Hands-on Arduino workshop, led by a member of Arduino
4-7pm Educator Meetup, including hands-on making activities suitable for teachers of all grades and ages, snacks and food, preview of the Maker Faire grounds, and more!
6-8pm Hands-on Arduino workshop, led by a member of Arduino
Space is limited for both the Meetup and the Arduino workshops, so please RSVP soon! We'll be sending out more information on how to get here and where to check-in shortly before the event.
