Description

The USPTO will celebrate World IP Day 2018 and the theme of “Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity” on Tuesday, April 24 from 10-11 a.m. in the Madison Auditorium.

Our keynote speaker is Dr. Frances Ligler, holder of 32 U.S. patents and Lampe Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. Inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2017, Dr. Ligler invented portable optical biosensors, which have been used in food production, health clinics, pollutant cleanup sites, and military applications, including detecting botulinum toxin and anthrax during Operation Desert Storm. Dr. Ligler and her team at the Naval Research Lab commercialized 11 of their inventions.

Dr. Ligler will provide perspective on her past and current work as well as discuss her insights on women as inventors and innovators.
