Paua Ventures and intermix.io present a private 2-hour training that introduces you to strategies and best practices for designing a data platform using Amazon Redshift.

WHY THIS TRAINING?

When it comes to Redshift, there's an elephant in the room. Everyone is struggling. Redshift is incredibly powerful, but if you’re a Data Engineer it can be painful to work with. Success is more guesswork than evidence-based, and you can spend a lot of time fighting fires. This training fixes that. The concepts of this training will help you get control of the platform, so you can spend more time being creative with your data.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The class will include hands-on activities, for your own cluster, focused on teaching you how to:

• process a massive volume of queries in short time
• discover and prevent problems with your cluster
• run blazing fast dashboards for data consumers

There will be ample time during the class for questions and discussion. The training also includes a

• pre-training briefing call with each individual participant and
• post-training Redshift support for 1-week via Slack

WHY SHOULD I CARE?

You’ve got your Redshift cluster up and running. As usage goes up, the red lamps start to flash. Data loads fail, queries hang and dashboards slow down to a crawl. Either that, or the cluster fills up and you need to reboot. It can feel like you’re out-numbered and under fire from all sides.

As the Data Engineer in charge, you usually find out after the fact. A CloudWatch alert, or an angry Slack message. Someone yelling that they can’t get their queries to run (while they refresh their dashboard like crazy). Not having the right tools to do your job is down right embarrassing.

This training will give you the skills and tools to get on top of this.

WHO'S THE INSTRUCTOR?

Paul Lappas, co-founder of intermix.io. Pauls hold multiple patents for cloud computing and performance analytics. Paul has built big data platforms himself. And he's probably best known for being on the AWS Customer Advisory Board during the launch of such AWS flagship products such as Redshift, Lambda and Kinesis.

FAQs

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The address is the Paua Ventures office. There's a fair amount of metered and unmetered parking nearby. Best to come by taxi to not worry about it at all. Especially consindering the drinks we'll serve afterwards..

Do I need to attend the training to come to the networking event?

No. The networking event is open to everybody from the Berlin start-up scene. You should come with an interest in data platforms, because that's what most people in the room will care about.

Is this training in German or English?

English.
