Description

The South African Centre for Digital Language Resources in collaboration with the Academy of African Languages and Science from the University of South Africa present an interactive day workshop on contributing to Wikipedia in South African languages. We discuss why it is important for South Africans, show how to develop your own content easily and guide you through the whole process of selecting a topic up until the finishing touches of a new article in your language.

10:05 - 10:35 What can we do with Wikipedia?
10:35 - 11:00 Coffee break
11:00 - 11:30 Wikipedia for African languages: A Setswana perspective
11:30 - 12:00 Interactive session: Finding a suitable topic
12:00 - 12:30 Interactive session: Writing/translating your article, part 1
12:30 - 13:30 Lunch
13:30 - 15:00 Interactive session: Writing/translating your article, part 2
15:00 - 15:30 Feedback and conclusion
