A Note from Our Host

My personal style. DRESSING UP, OVER AND AGAIN is based on my what I call my ABC s...Assembling Building and Constructing using Color, Texture and Layering with my body as my armature. To me, Style is Healing. Dress to DE-stress.

I have been working with sustainable materials for over 50 years. These everyday found materials that show up in my environment speak to me. In my creations as well as my life I am in playful exploration of beauty and ingenuity. I am a maker and enjoy the process of getting my hands dirty while manipulating materials. I am not a shopper but a searcher for things that can have another life through transformation, hence keeping them out of the landfill. Frugality is Fun. My personal work has always been about Layered Textiles Related to the Body including a body of work called "Fibrous Raiments"

I love building hats/headgear. To me everything is a HAT, be it a paper bag, a lampshade or a vase. They can all be inter changeable. I allow the materials to speak to me and then create forms that enhance the face. My philosophy is "FRAME THE FACE"

I no longer have fear of aging. There are creative solutions throughout life. Where there is creativity there are NO rules, where there are NO rules, there is no fear. It is wonderful to age with more freedom and vitality, wisdom and experience and eccentricity and elegance. IT IS better with AGE!

I have been featured in the film, "Advanced Style" as well as the 3 Advanced Style books. I have also participated in a TEDx Talk (Amsterdam 2014) with Ari Seth Cohen the creator of Advanced Style

My work has been featured in art museums across the country including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia.

I have taught Costume Design, Personal Adornment and Textile Design for many years at the Univeristy of California, Davis after getting my Masters Degree at University of California in 1970.

I have taught at many NYC institutions including MOMA, MAD museum, NYU, Neue Museum, Lower Eastside Girls Club, The Creative Center and City Lore.
