Event description
Do you encounter shy or defensive kittens or cats in your TNR or other animal rescue work? If so, you won't want to miss this workshop!

About this Event

Using film footage of successful, tried-and-true techniques, combined with insights into the biological development of kittens, our ever-popular Taming Feral Kittens for Adoption workshop provides attendees with information on how to tame and socialize feral kittens quickly and efficiently so they can be adopted into indoor homes. We will teach you the easy, fast-track method for taming feral kittens under 8 weeks of age, including a strategy for successfully trapping a litter and mom and then transitioning them to indoor life. We also will teach you how to evaluate the prospects for taming older kittens and cats from any situation.

These techniques also work on shy cats as well as ferals! Rescuers and adoption groups keep telling us that the techniques they learned in this class also are effective in bringing shy cats to the front of the cage and socializing cage-aggressive adult cats so they can more happily meet potential adopters. By explaining how to modify unwanted feline behaviors from basic shyness to petting-induced aggression, this workshop is very useful for anyone who is interested in successfully bringing cats in from the streets and out of their shells.

Hosts: NYC Feral Cat Initiative of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals; Urban Cat League; Brooklyn Borough President, Eric L. Adams

Instructor: Mike Phillips, Urban Cat League

Course Fee: There is no fee to attend this workshop, but advance registration is requested.

Notes: This workshop is open to people who are 18 or older. Please do not bring animals to the workshop (with the exception of service animals).
