Logan Barrio A History told by Sam Romero

Neighborhoods were segregated, and the Logan Barrio was the worst Barrio. With two Barrios under threat at the same time, the Logan Barrio would survive about 35 years ago. There was a Civic Center Barrio between 4th and 1st, where everyone was kicked out so they could build condo’s. Logan was the only neighborhood that allowed Latino’s to own anything. This is how Sam Romero got his start organizing with the group that would later become OCCCO.

Streets Of Orange County is an educational program sharing stories about local streets and places, identifying the plants and wildlife in our neighborhoods, and the trails through our parks and mountains. Journey with Joel Robinson and special guests on a series of engaging conversations about the natural and cultural history of Orange County.

Joel Robinson is a professional naturalist and director of the 12-year-old environmental education charity Naturalist For You based in Orange. A barefoot, bearded educator seeking to empower his community by offering free natural and cultural history activities throughout Southern California, including foraging, birding, tracking, survival skills, storytelling, living history reenactment, habitat restoration consulting, backyard biological surveys.
