Startup to Scale Up Growth Workshop: R&D Tax Incentive, PR, Valuations and IP Law Essentials

Are you running a tech startup that is gearing up for its next phase? Are your priorities focused on hitting new revenue targets, broadening your product roadmap and scaling in new markets? Perhaps you're setting the foundations for expansion, building a brand name and amplifying your reach.

As an innovative startup, you’ll be faced with the challenges of running your business, measuring your business' worth and raising capital, protecting your IP and promoting your offering.

This interactive workshop provides an introduction and practical walk-through for some of the key focal areas startups encounter as they move into scale-up phase.

Presented by industry leaders, the program equips founders with a toolkit of essentials around R&D tax, public relations, accounting and legal to support and drive growth in the Australian market.

Who should attend:

Founders/entrepreneurs in established startups to early revenue-generating technology companies, post MVP with a customer base and notable local market traction.

What's included:

  • Workshops from 4 well regarded professionals speaking about their area of expertise

  • Tangible advice and interactive time with the experts

  • A small group of no more than 30 attendees

  • A light breakfast

  • Opportunity to redeem the price of the ticket against a service from each of the host companies (valid for single use, per company)

Experts from PwC’s Nifty Grants, LaunchLink Communications, Standard Ledger and Wrays will each present a specialised session, covering the areas of:

  • R&D Tax Incentive: Determining your eligibility to claim the R&D Tax Incentive can be a challenge. Hear from PwC’s Nifty Grants senior R&D specialist, Jeremy Worthington, as he explains the legislation, including the most recent updates from AusIndustry; how to determine your eligibility - what is and is not considered research and development under the legislation; how and when to claim FY19 R&D expenses; options available to complete your claim and what to expect of the process; maximising your claim vs completing an accurate claim; R&D claim audits and reviews - an explanation and how to approach it; setting up for future claims.

  • Public Relations: How do you gain credibility and awareness as a small company that help to acquire users, lock down funding and secure strategic deals? How do you get the media to notice you and what are they interested in writing about? LaunchLink will cover how to build a brand narrative and take the first steps to getting your story into the press.

  • Valuations: They say valuation can be as much an art as a science, and there is definitely a psychology at play during capital raising negotiations. Standard Ledger will run through 4 ways of valuing your startup to give you an operating range of valuation as a base to negotiate from.

  • Intellectual Property: What is an IP strategy and its role in helping to achieve high business growth? Hear from Wrays’ intellectual property expert, Adrian Huber as he demystifies the topic of intellectual property, putting it into a business context and sharing tips and best practices to help you protect your brand and the value of your intellectual property to support business scale up.
