Workshop Process Design with 3P
Tue, Apr 25, 2017, 8:00 AM – Thu, Apr 27, 2017, 4:30 PM MST
Production Preparation Process, or 3P, is a technique used to invent or completely re-design a manufacturing or work process to achieve significant reductions in cost and capital expenditures. 3P is a high energy, high impact activity that focuses on optimization and waste elimination at the product and/or process design stage. 3P offers potential to make "quantum leap" design improvements that can improve performance and eliminate waste to a level beyond that achieved through the continual improvement of existing processes.
This hands-on workshop will cover the use and application of Capital Avoidance and the Production Preparation Process (3P). It will cover the benefits of Production Preparation Process, when 3P should be applied, how events are structured and conducted and results achieved. Examples will be provided and highlights of 3P events from facility design, product development and process design. Participants will use the 3P process to create multiple 2D designs, create alternate 3D scale models for simulating and measuring alternatives and finalize the 3D model with the best performance.
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Learn the methodology of 3P to take cost out of systems prior to product launch with concepts such as idea generation and rapid prototyping
- Understand the critical role of 3P in the success of a new model launch. Using the 3P process to eliminate waste prior to production, determine the minimal resources and cost to meet customer demand, and to build quality and flexibility into your production system.
- How to prepare for and conduct 3P Implementation events at your plants.
