Frequently Asked Questions (QA)

What does this workshop have to offer that others don't? What is the BIG differential?

The differential is being able to use a PMO standard (there is none in the market) that was defined by professionals of the subject and that is based not only on their experience but on Benchmarking, consolidating the best practices that serve most of the industries in most PMOs. To have a common method, connecting professionals from around the world, based on benchmarking and with access to a tool called PMO Value Ring (www.pmovaluering.com) to be able to implement the method.

¿Who is PMO Global Alliance?

PMO Global Alliance (www.pmoga.com) PMO Global Alliance (www.pmoga.com) is a non-profit organization that organized the original research with worldwide professionals that later became the PMO Value Ring methodology. It is based in Brazil and USA, It is considered more a community of professionals specialized in PMO because its role is to maintain the methodology and organize the community of professionals around the PMO issues (they provide education, research and social networks). To support the methodology, they have created two types of certification (PMO-CP and PMO-CC) and are in the process of formal accreditation.

What is the validity of the certification?

The certification has no expiration and no periodic renewal is required. If there is a significant methodology update, certified professionals will be notified so that they can update their certification at no cost through online material.

What are the requirements for certification?

Similar to prince2, you take the course and present an exam at the end of the workshop when delivered through Practical Thinking Group. The exam is online, the participants need to have a computer and it's presented at the end of the workshop.

What are the characteristics of this methodology that distinguishes it from others? Where does it come from?

The methodology is considered a de facto standard for implementing or redesigning PMOs and increasing the value perceived by stakeholders. It arises from a research program carried out since 2006 initially in Brazil and that was expanded to other countries where the professionals began to identify tools that gave them value for their PMO (eg how to define PMO processes, how to measure maturity, what are the competencies of the PMO staff, how to measure the ROI of the PMO, etc.) and were consolidated into a methodology called PMO Value Ring. The dissemination and maintenance of the methodology are done by the PMO Global Alliance.

PMO Value Ring is based on several notions: a) the PMO is a service provider to meet expected benefits of its internal clients, b) a company does not have to define a PMO type since the beginning, c) a PMO can provide several services that could be strategic, tactical or operational and finally d) balancing and mixing the right services ensures providing the higher value. As it is based on benchmarking, the user can identify through statistics how likely are the services selected to provide value based on the experience of worldwide professionals and PMOs. There is a software available in www.pmovaluering.com that supports its implementation through free and paid licenses.

Do I obtain PDUs (Professional Development Units) to maintain my certifications?

This workshop provides 16 PDUS in the Technical Category. No need to enter a REP or a course ID because it can be registered as a Non-REP training.
