Description

The Workshop on Research to Address Gaps in International Blood Availability and Transfusion Safety: Challenges and Opportunities is jointly organized by the Division of Blood Diseases and Resources (DBDR) and the Center for Translation Research and Implementation Science (CTRIS) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The purpose of the workshop is to identify the key research priorities, including training needs, for improving blood safety and availability in low- and mid-income countries and research opportunities may include any element (from the development of new laboratory assays to the evaluation of recruitment strategies in clinical trials) that, if implemented in a particular region, would help achieve a safe and available blood supply and improve the care of patients in need such as those with trauma, malaria, sickle cell disease, thalassemia and obstetric hemorrhage. The workshop will be held on April 18-19, 2017, in Bethesda, MD, USA.
