Workshop on Intercultural Learning in Education Abroad

Learning Objectives

Registration

Registration for this workshop will be capped at 40 individuals. Shenandoah University employees will apply through Bethany Galipeau-Konate in the Center for International Programs, bgalipea@su.edu or 540-542-6285. Individuals from outside Shenandoah University are invited to register and attend this workshop. Registration will open on Monday August 7, 2017.


The cost of this workshop is as follows:

Shenandoah University employees -- $290 per person (apply through Bethany Galipeau-Konate in the Center for International Programs)

Non-Shenandoah University employees:

  • Early bird rate (until September 15, 2017) --- $330 per person
  • Regular rate (register September 16-29, 2017, space permitting) --- $370 per person

The price includes the following:

  • Lunch (registrants will be asked to indicate any dietary restrictions)
  • Coffee, tea and water
  • Light refreshments
  • Workshop materials, including a collection of resources

Refund Policy

Requests for refunds must be emailed to steve@ifcctl.com. Upon request, refunds for withdrawal from this webinar will be made based on this schedule:

  • Requests made on or before September 18, 2017: Full refund
  • Requests made between September 19-26, 2017: Registration will be refunded 70%
  • Beginning September 27, 2017: No refunds will be made

About the presenter:

Steven Duke, Ph.D., is President of the Institute for Cross-Cultural Teaching and Learning, and Assistant Vice President for Global Strategy and International Initiatives at the University of Nebraska. With a doctorate in history from Indiana University, Steve has taught Russian, European and world history courses at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Wake Forest University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Brigham Young University. He has also taught cross-cultural engagement courses and conducts research on intercultural learning and intercultural competence development. He created and spearheaded the WISE Conference from 2008 to 2015, turning it into the premier conference on intercultural learning in education abroad and an important training environment for faculty who lead education abroad programs. He is a frequent presenter at regional, national and international conferences on international education and at workshops for faculty and international education professionals. His publications include Preparing to Study Abroad: Learning to Cross Cultures (Stylus, 2014) and “The Importance of Intercultural Learning in Study Abroad,” in T. Milby and J. Rhodes, ed. Advancing Teacher Education and Curriculum Development through Study Abroad Programs (IGI Global, 2015), pp. 73-88.
