About this event

Alliance Française of Washington, DC in partnership with the Embassy of France and the Québec Government Office in Washington invites you to participate in an interactive workshop with Cameroonian comic book author and artist, Joëlle Epée Mandengue, aka Elyon's.

During this workshop, designed for 10-13 years old, participants will learn more about the art of "la bande dessinée" and will be guided through the process of creating their own comic book character.

This event is organized as part of the 2021 DC Francophonie Festival. It will be held in French. Prepare some pencils and a piece of paper if you would like to participate in the creative process.

The event is free and open to everyone. All registrants will receive a Zoom link a few days before the event.

About the speaker

Under her pseudonym Elyon's, Joëlle Epée Mandengue creates comic book series "La vie d'Ebène Duta" (already 3 volumes published). She is also a stand-up comedian broadcasted on Canal + in the Africa Stand Up Festival and the Valery Ndongo Comedy Club.

Joëlle Epée Mandengue co-curates various temporary comics exhibitions on the African continent, including the South African virtual exhibition, Afropolitan Comics, and the largest exhibition "Bandes Dessinées d'Afrique.s" as part of the season of African cultures and year of comics 2020, in Angoulême, France. She is also the creator and director of the International Comics Festival of Congo: Bilili BD Festival.

L'Alliance Française de Washington en partenariat avec l'Ambassade de France et le Bureau de Québec à Washington, vous invite à participer à l'atelier interactif avec Joëlle Epée Mandengue (qui crée sous le pseudonyme Elyon's), une bédéiste camerounaise.

Pendant cet atelier pour les 10-13 ans, les enfants seront amenés à créer un personnage de la bande dessinée. Merci de préparer quelques crayons, ainsi que quelques feuilles de papier si vous voulez participer dans le processus créatif.

Cet événement est organisé dans le cadre du festival annuel de la Francophonie de Washington DC et sera en français.

L'événement est gratuit et ouvert à tous. Tous les inscrits recevront un lien de connexion quelques jours avant l'événement.

A propos de l'intervenant

Sous son pseudo Elyon’s, Joëlle Epée Mandengue est l’autrice de la série en bande dessinée « La vie d’Ebène Duta » (déjà 3 tomes parus). Elle est aussi stand-uppeuse diffusée sur Canal + dans l’Africa Stand Up Festival et le Valery Ndongo Comedy Club. Elle publie dans des magazines, collectifs BDs de plusieurs pays (Canada, France, Brésil, Burkina Faso, Liban, Cameroun, Allemagne, chez «Spirou» en Belgique).

Joëlle Epée Mandengue effectue le co-commissariat de différentes expositions temporaires de bandes dessinées sur le continent africain, dont l’exposition virtuelle sud-africaine, Afropolitan Comics et la plus grande exposition “Bandes Dessinées d’Afrique.s” dans le cadre de la saison des cultures africaines et année de la BD 2020, à Angoulême, France. Elle est aussi la créatrice et directrice du Festival International de la bande dessinée du Congo : Bilili BD Festival.
