Event description

Description

Dear British Columbia parents and youth,

Would you like to help improve health research practices at BC Children’s Hospital?

You are receiving this invitation because you are a patient advocate or a BCCH BioBank participant and have given your permission to be contacted for research purposes. We would like to hear your opinion on how children and their families would like to participate in medical research, specifically biobanking. Biobanks are extremely important to finding new and better treatments for all patients. We want to make sure that biobank practices work for you and that they are effective, respectful and inclusive.

The BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) BioBank is a library of biological samples and medical information for health research. Patients can voluntarily contribute to the BCCH BioBank. We invite you to watch this 2 minute video for further background.

We invite parents and youth age 11-18, to take part in an interactive workshop on November 20th from 5:00-7:30pm at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute. A short presentation will be shown about different types of research, including biobanking, followed by a group discussion on topics that we would like your input on such as: what are the benefits, risks and barriers to biobanking? How we can we make participation in biobanks easier for you?

A $25 gift card will be provided in recognition of your time. Parking, transit, child-care costs and other out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed. Refreshments will be provided. We very much hope you will be interested in participating in this event and are looking forward to hearing from you. The input from this session will be used to recommend future biobank practices.

Register today! Please contact Tamsin Tarling by email: tamsin.tarling@cw.bc.ca or by phone 604 875 2000 ext 6423 if you have any questions or would prefer to register via email, as Eventbrite stores information as a third party for internal purposes only.

Yours Sincerely,

BCCH BioBank Research team:

Suzanne Vercauteren , Alice Virani, Shazhan Amed, Tamsin Tarling, Michelle Dittrick, Heather Van Tassel, Tram Pham
