Description

Problem

We all want to make a difference in the world, but turning good intentions into tangible social, environmental and economic impact can be challenging. Often, we are faced with the challenges of resource mobilization and management .Also, not much comes from our evaluations because they are done in isolation.

Today, impact measurement, collaborative, mission-driven and communication based strategy, has attracted value based workforce, design thought out processes, investor base, and sustainable solutions.

Solution

I am happy to announce our 1st annual Impact Investing Forum in Kenya. The one day conference is designed to showcase, initiate discussions and catalyzing social impact: Stakeholders will connect, debate and get inspired through thought-provoking panels, investor and venture pitches, a social enterprise fair and plenty of networking opportunities. This is a collaborative approach that seeks to create positive social and environmental impact alongside an economic return.

On the agenda are 8 sessions, including workshops on impact investing trends, faith-based investing and impact measurement as well as IT integration, investing in green infrastructure and gender development. Reflecting the shift we are witnessing in the philanthropic space, we also dedicate sessions to trends in venture philanthropy and program related investing.

What to gain

We invite participants to share ideas, challenges and solutions and to learn about innovation and opportunities in impact investing . Connecting the financial, intellectual, creative and social capital of our generation in an action-oriented, solutions-focused and safe space, the Summit aims to inspire learning and collaboration between a uniquely powerful network of peers.

In this panel we will explore how to start an impact investing fund and what it takes to get institutional investors on-board. Explore models that respond to the needs of social enterprises and can help them scale their impact.

The panel and the audience will discuss:

• Examples of entrepreneurialism in the non-profit sector

• Case studies of organisations who have already begun or completed the process of acquiring social finance

• Challenges of scaling impact

• Innovations in planning to scale-up for impact

• The importance of intermediaries in the social investment market

• Social enterprise, governance and charity law

Topics we’ll discuss:

• How to build impact investment cultures in traditional investment firms

• Redefining the relationship between impact investing, ethical investing and ESG

• How to incentivise fund managers and financial advisors to take impact seriously

• Regulatory changes are needed to encourage impact investing

• Setting the right return expectations for impact investing, both financial and impact

• Measuring impact in ways that are clear and credible for investors

• Creating new impact financial products for the mass market

• Ensuring a full deal pipeline of impact investments to meet rising demand

We shall not only embrace the challenge of the sustainable development of our planet but will go beyond to also focus on youth, corporate engagement in social equality and community resilience.

This event is designed to maximize networking and small group engagement. We will focus on exploring the notion of Investing for Impact from a personal perspective. Participants will share their stories—what motivates them, how they are consciously directing investment capital for positive impact, what is needed to help them move to the next leve.

We are specifically aiming for the following outcomes:

(a) Showcase successful social business models in our communities and our track record of impact investing (Impact Investing is Kenya’s next IT/BPO)

(b) Attract greater social impact capital to Kenya (Target $1 billion annually by 2020

(c) Enable transnational pathways for impact investing through consenus on definitions, standards and measurements

(d) Encourage joint investing in LDCs (East-West collaboration)

By joining the conference you will:

• Empower yourself to collaborate and thrive as an investor, entrepreneur, expert or partner.

• Gain global expertise and perspectives through in-depth workshops, panel discussions, keynote addresses, and more.

• Celebrate and discover the flourishing CEE Impact community through enterprise and investor showcases.

• Connect with peers in targeted networking sessions with key stakeholders and fresh actors in the region and around the world.

The case studies will prepare participants on: What to do when a social business steers into trouble? In this session, they will conduct a conversation about the not-so-talked-about subject of dealing with adversity.

Activity Schedule

The day will combine several branded activities under one roof. A three ring circus, all of it focused on private markets, where attendees constantly cross–pollinate, as they freely move from one event to the next. Whether your focus is on Private Equity, Venture & Growth Capital, Real Assets, or Growth Equity, you’ll find more insight and connections here than any conference you’ll attend all year.

It will feature five interactive workshops in which impact investors will learn how to build a strategy for impact, identify more reliable impact measures and methods, use existing evidence to inform investment decisions, and strategically manage a portfolio for maximum impact.

This roundtable will look at the other side of the coin—more and more social finance vehicles, funds and intermediaries are being developed for non-profits to scale up their activities. But who can guide non-profits through this process effectively? What are the challenges in scaling up for greater impact? Is it solely a challenge in the availability of suitable capital, or are there other factors at play? What processes must an organisation develop to ensure that it is investment-ready?

Impact

Organizations and individuals with interests in Impact investing from of all walks of life, are invited to join the conference both physically and virtually. Participants will range from angel investors, fund managers and diversified institutions to family offices, corporate partners, private foundations, NGOs and business incubators.

The convention will seek to actively engage 200-250 participants, 15% impact creators,15%I impact investors and consumers. Moreover, our objectives will be to ensure that at least 1/2 of all attending are actively involved in impact investment.

The workshop is designed for investors who recognize that learning in partnership with others leads to better results. Participants will explore ways to engage with peers in designing and implementing evaluation and learning approaches that generate stronger information, decisions and performance.
