Description

Contract Intelligence 2.0

A demonstration of the latest developments in Cortical.io Contract Intelligence software, run by Francisco Webber, Cofounder of Cortical.io.

With Cortical.io Contract Intelligence software, large enterprises are automating the extraction, monitoring, and analysis of key information from thousands of complex contracts, freeing up huge resources that were previously dedicated to the manual review of contracts. In an instant, consistent and comparable summary abstracts and spreadsheets are generated, contracts are classified, and extracted data is fed into the companies’ contract management workflows. Cortical.io technology delivers extremely high levels of data precision and recall. Instead of relying on statistics to process natural language, the software analyzes the meaning of text—and not just of keywords, but of whole sentences and clauses too, so that the problems of language ambiguity and vocabulary mismatch within and across contracts are overcome.

Who it’s for: Anyone interested in big data or natural language processing. Technical teams that support the legal processes of their firms, as well as legal and business-intelligence professionals. For example, software engineers might be expanding into one of these fields and want to take the next step in artificial intelligence, beyond statistics.

What key skills and abilities should people be prepared to improve or discover? Knowledge of automating extraction of structured data from complex unstructured text.

About the instructor

Francisco Webber is co-founder and general manager of Cortical.io, a company that develops natural language understanding solutions for analyzing the big text data of large enterprises. The solutions are based on the actual meaning, rather than on statistical occurrences, of text. Francisco’s interest in information technology developed during his medical studies, when he was involved in medical data processing. Over two decades he explored search engine technologies and documentation systems in different contexts but became increasingly frustrated with the limitations of statistical methods.

In 2005 he founded Matrixware Information Services, which developed the first standardized patent database. In 2007 he set up the Information Retrieval Facility, a non-profit research institute that bridged the gap between academia and industry in the field of information retrieval.
Francisco recognized that the brain was the only high-performing system when it came to natural language understanding. While closely following developments in neuroscience, he formulated his theory of Semantic Folding, which models how the brain processes language data. In 2011, he co-founded Cortical.io to apply the principles of cerebral processing to machine learning and text processing and solve real-world use cases related to big data.
