Description

Are you someone exploring the idea of introducing tourism to a community? Or just someone interested in topics like ecotourism, community base tourism?

A workshop cum sharing and networking; to discuss the implementation of commmunity based tourism and ecotourism and its challenges. Community based tourism, or CBT, is increasingly popular across Southeast Asia, especially and often in rural areas. Tourism that is meant to involve local people, engage local people in decision making, brings tangible benefits to local people, and helps to protect heritage and cultures of local people etc.

Suitable for people who are keen to explore such topics deeper, or just wanting to learn more about these different aspects of sustainable tourism. Session will be interactive, and facilitated by Kevin Phun, Singapore's only specialist in responsible/ sustainable tourism.

Discussion objectives:

- Understanding what community based tourism and ecotourism are. How they are both complimentary.

- How ecotourism can benefit both the local people and the community areas.

- Challenges faced in implementing ecotourism and community based tourism.


Invest a few hours and come prepared to learn and also network with other professionals; bring namecards and an open mind for discussion!

About the trainer/speaker:

Kevin Phun is a specialist in responsible touruism, and one of no more than a few who truly knows the subject well. He is a practitioner in responsible tourism, having written rather extensively and did projects in Southeast Asia in ecotourism and community based tourism.
