Event description

Description

Join us as we use human centered design to transform the employee experience of your organization. This workshop will help you create a more equitable, inclusive, exciting and impactful organization for your employees.

We use design thinking to create new products and fuel our customer journeys—now we can apply it to creating employee experiences that excite, engage, and retain our teams too! If you haven’t heard the term “design thinking” yet, rest assured that you will soon. Design thinking is the concept that incredible organizations like Apple, IDEO, Pixar, and Airbnb use to develop their user-friendly technology, products, services, and more.

Those big-name companies understand that the way we work is changing. Shifting demographics and evolving technology is creating a radical shift in employee expectations as new generations join our workplaces. The way we approach human resources and people management needs to change too, or employees will leave our companies behind and move towards ones that offer more exciting and meaningful work experiences.

All this makes us ask:

  • What leadership can HR practitioners provide to support this shift in our work world?

  • How can we solve the complex problems facing our organization in new ways? The same-old-same-old isn’t working anymore!

  • How do we ensure that our companies build cultures, programs, and policies that excite and motivate employees, as opposed to confuse and frustrate them?

The answer? We use design thinking.

Join us for a one day workshop to learn the methodology behind design thinking (such as empathy and ideation), so you can start to transform how your team supports your organization. You will learn how some of the biggest organizations like Airbnb, Apple, and Pixar use design thinking to put their “users”—a.k.a. their employees—in the center of their creations to make services and products that delight their customers and engage their teams.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Why and how teams use design thinking to build great products, services, and experiences.

  • The design thinking process and how and why you should be using it

  • The importance of personas in design thinking—and what they are

  • Empathy and user journey exercises that help glean meaningful insights from your staff

  • Visual Thinking Tools—what they are and how to use them

What You’ll Leave With:

  • New insights that will prepare you to lead through workplace changes

  • A bigger network that includes fellow HR revolutionaries who want to join you in the charge against “the old way of work”

  • A toolkit that you can start using immediately to transform your organization’s employee experience including:

    • An employee experience journey map template

    • Actions and next steps you can implement tomorrow to start moving from “HR processes” to real Employee Engagement

    • Several new activities you can introduce to your team back at the office to start integrating design thinking into your programs and workflows

  • The crazy inspiration and clarity you get after stepping outside your day-to-day drudgery

Who will Love this Workshop:

  • Culture builders who focus on the employee experience of their organization

  • Innovative HR generalists, business partners, leaders and Talent Management, L&D, and OD professionals

  • Senior leaders from any function who are always ahead of the curve and want to bring design thinking and the subsequent innovations, employee engagement, and business results into their organizations

The Cleaners is one of our favorite spaces in Portland. Located at the corner of SW 10th and Stark Street it occupies the space that was once Peacock Dry Cleaners. A Stumptown Coffee in the building, and located block from Powell's Books, a block from the Pearl District, it is an easy stroll to just about everywhere else. The Cleaners offers 18-foot ceilings, lots of natural light, and beautifully restored fir floors. We are looking forward to spending time with you in this gorgeous space!
