Working with Uncertainty: Utilizing compassion in addiction treatment

We gather to explore the phenomenon of addiction, and how certainty about it —that it is only and always a disease, that the only way to recovery is treatment, that abstinence is the only choice, and many other certainties — can disrupt or impede our ability to help. What, actually, can clinicians and counselors hold as certain? How does a stance of certainty impact the therapeutic relationship?  Join us in questioning the social constructs that often injure clients and in shifting toward a perspective of curiosity.
