Working with the Military and Veteran Population Presented by Christopher Morse, LICSW, MVF-ASW

This program is pending approval for 5 Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Hours by NASW/CT. The Willow Center has requested this program be considered for credits in the veteran population and culture.

Hurry! $99 for first 50 registrants. $125 thereafter.

Synopsis: This program will provide non-military providers with information on important aspects of military culture, and understanding of the process in which an individual becomes acculturated to their military branch, common concerns when deployed to a combat theater, and common readjustment concerns following deployment. Further emphasis will be placed on approaches to interact with Veteran and military clients, as well as resources for referral.

Objective One: Identify important aspects of military culture and how military culture may influence a client’s presentation.

Objective Two: Identify common hazards of combat areas, and how they may affect military and Veteran clients.

Objective Three: Identify common readjustment difficulties faced by military members upon return and reintegration with the civilian environment.

Objective Four: Identify best practices and ways to assist military and Veteran clients in a culturally competent manner.

About the Trainer:

Christopher Morse, LICSW, MVF-ASW has spent most of his adult life in and around the military and veteran population. Since his enlistment in 1991, he has served the military population both as a service member and clinician. Following his deployment to Iraq, Mr. Morse began his career at the Providence Vet Center in 2005. He has since served the military and veteran population as a readjustment counselor and outreach worker, a social worker, and an advocate for veterans’ issues. He served as the co-chair of the Peer Support Sub- Committee of the RI Veteran’s Task Force. Mr. Morse has given multiple presentations and trainings to service members and clinicians on PTSD, depression, and other readjustment issues. He was named as one of the team leaders in 2013 for the Vet Center’s deployment to Boston, MA following the Boston Marathon bombings and coordinated outreach and psychological first aid to veterans and the community-at-large. Currently, he is a readjustment counseling therapist at the Providence Vet Center.
