Event description
Have questions about how to support reunification through the dependency court?

About this Event

What happens after removal? What are the legal next steps? Is there a specific timeline for a dependency trial? How does substance abuse impact a case? What does "minimally adequate parenting" really mean in the eyes of the law? These are all questions CASAs are often left asking that this educational opportunity aims to answer. Join VOICES and Chris Phillis, Director of Maricopa County Public Defense Services, as she educates CASAs on the logistics of the child dependency system and how substance abuse cases impact it. This training will also explain the do’s and don’ts of working with attorneys in court, helping foster parents learn how to better support reunification when appropriate, and the differences between abuse and neglect per Arizona law. When reunification is not the case plan though, what are the other options available to foster youth? What about cultural considerations in regards to severance and adoption? Bring your questions!

Note: this training has been previously held at VOICES twice in 2020
