Event description
Want to learn how to support foster youth while they have an open dependency case?

About this Event

Did you know that over 80% of child dependency cases are due to failure to protect and neglect because of substance abuse? Join VOICES and Chris Phillis, Director of Maricopa County's Public Defense Services, as she educates CASAs on the logistics of the child dependency system and how substance abuse cases impact it. What happens after removal? What are the legal next steps? What is the timeline for a dependency trial? These are all questions CASAs are often left asking that this educational opportunity aims to answer. Chris will explain the do’s and don’ts of working with attorneys in court and helping foster parents learn how to better support reunification when appropriate. When reunification is not the case plan though, what are the other options available to foster youth? Bring your questions!
