Misa Fia Turner is a Registered NZAC Counsellor, Supervisor, Accredited Mediator and Facilitator. She is a part-time Senior Academic Research Lecturer for the Bachelor of Counselling programme at MIT. She operates a Private Practice which provides Counselling, Clinical-Cultural Supervision, Family Dispute Resolution Mediation and Restorative Justice Facilitation. She also delivers Online workshops to assist Non-Pacific Counsellors/Practitioners who provide counselling for the Pasifika people in Aotearoa NZ and Australia.
Fia graduated with a Bachelor of Counselling and Master of Indigenous Studies with honours. She is co-author of the Penina Uliuli – Contemporary Challenges in Mental Health for Pacific Peoples. Fia presents frequently on regional and national levels about ‘Working Effectively with Pasifika People’.
She has been and is a member of various Board of Trustees and Advisory Panels for the Government and Non-government organisations at the local, regional and national level.
Her vision is for healthy and prosperous communities. Her passion is to support counsellors and practitioners to be culturally competent, working effectively with the Pasifika people in therapy, as they apply the Pasifika models of practice with confidence, hence this Training workshop to support this very important mahi.
