Description

ANN MARTIN CENTER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT LECTURE SERIESFor Educators & Child Mental Health Professionals

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce participants to the gender affirmative model for working with transgender and non-binary children and youth. We will examine the parameters and assumptions of the model in the context of available treatment options, and explore what a gender affirmative clinical practice looks like. Participants will learn key concepts and vocabulary for working with these populations and their families, and will be introduced to how to do gender affirmative therapeutic work. Parents and teachers are also welcome to attend, as the model is useful and relevant to all systems in a transgender or non-binary child’s life.

Natasha Distiller has a PhD in Gender Studies and an MA in Psychology. She has been working with transgender and non-binary youth and adults, and their families, for four years, and she has been working with issues of gender for almost twenty, in a variety of contexts from the non-profit sector in different countries, to academic teaching and publishing. She is in private practice in Oakland, and also teaches and presents on both psychotherapy and gender. You can learn more about her on her website: www.natashadistiller.com.
