Residential week school for activists and friends of Workers' Liberty
Please book tickets using the eventbrite link above as we need to know numbers. We shall contact you about arranging transport.
The week schools will be organised as a series of "seminars" about whole books, rather than snippety readings.
We'd recommend, and have available in the house, background reading for each book under discussion.
The idea would be that all students will already have read most of the two or three basic texts being discussed at each school. They may want to re-read parts in the course of the week as they discuss the texts in more details.
Students will also read some of the background texts (varying amounts, depending on levels of confidence and previous reading) and bring material from them into the discussion.
The school will be hosted in a house in Bradwell, near Sheffield. Help with transport will be arranged and communal cooking will be organised. The school is an opportunity to get to grips with ideas and to socialise with comrades.
Marx, "Capital" - background Green and Nore, "Economics: an anti-text" (the 1970s one, not the more recent "Economics: an anti-textbook"). The 1970s one is available secondhand cheap
Lise Vogel, "Marxism and the oppression of women"
Lenin's "What Is To Be Done?" - background Lars Lih, "Lenin Rediscovered"; Zinoviev, "History of the Bolshevik Party"; Lenin, "Left-Wing Communism"
To book for these schools, please send a payment of £5 (to cover incidental costs and a hardship fund) to AWL office.
