Boulder CSED Week and Workbench Platform and Maker Boulder
About this workshop: Learning to code is about making cool things happen by writing directions in a certain way. Did you know you can get started on learning to code without a computer or screen of any kind? We'll use easy, every day props and ideas to create an atmosphere where it is ok to be silly, have fun, fine-tune our work and recognize that all good coders start by writing code out on paper, make mistakes, and revise their code a lot.
You’ll Learn How To: This workshop is about learning to think in the way computers do and identifying different common patterns in writing code by writing instructions do something seemingly easy.
Target Audience: Children ages 8 - 12
Workshop Schedule: For the first hour we'll work on writing codes as simple instructions, easy enough for a robot or martian who knows nothing about our day to day lives to follow. In the second hour, we'll "execute our code" and discover what areas may call for revision and design iteration as we refine our understanding of what code can do, how to write specific instructions specifically, and laugh a lot.
Description of event leader/organization: Workbench Platform, the educational platform for hands on and project based leanring joins with Maker Bolder, the premier maker-education organization in the area to bring you this inventive way to approach computer science without computers.
