Think about some of the features of your favorite site or app. Maybe you think about responsiveness, navigation, or even a great color scheme and typography. One thing that might not be high on your list is microcopy—the little bits of text that assist, reassure, guide, and motivate. In many cases, the content on great websites is almost invisible—it’s clear, concise, and doesn’t distract, but shows up in real time to predict and quell users’ questions and fears. In other cases, content takes center stage to delight users, injecting a human touch into even the most routine loading screens and 404 pages.

In this discussion, Julia will talk about her role as a UX content writer at athenahealth. She’ll describe how content can make or break a design, and share some tried and true tips for writing effective copy.

Julia is a User Experience Content Writer at athenahealth. She tells the story of the design—guiding, assisting, and motivating users through words. Julia was an English major and started her career writing user manuals and online help as a technical writer. Now an embedded member of athenahealth’s UX team, she uses her background to craft clear, concise, and compelling content that drives behavior.
