Event Details

You want a website, but you’re not a web designer, and you don’t want to be.

You just want to blog. Or you just want to put up a website for your church, your non profit, your club, your family re-union, your new business. Or you own a small business and every time you want to change something on your website your web designer holds your website hostage (that’ll be $100, every time, thank you)..

And all you need is something that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and looks exciting,  reflects your style, and oh please, let it be easy to maintain!

You should take this class.

In this lively hands-on 5 session class learn WordPress, the free software that millions of people use  to share interesting and fresh ideas for both blogging or to create professional looking websites. With this popular content management system  the days of boring, outdated and static content websites are over. And you’ll get found, because search engines love Wordpress.

You can succeed in finally creating the blog or website you want - even if you’ve never before managed your own site, because it’s so easy to use.

This class starts Tuesday May 31, 2012 and meets from 6:30pm  to 8:30pm.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this 5 session class:
  • How to buy your domain name, set up Wordpress (what are the costs involve? and how to do it for free)
  • How to install WordPress
  • How to find and install themes
  • How to create a static front page (for a regular web page, a sales letter or even Ecommerce)
  • How to get your new blog or website ready for the Search Engines
  • How to customize your WordPress Dashboard
  • How to create posts, pages and add images to all.
  • How to add your own images and videos, or find them on the web
  • 30 of the best free Plugins and how to install and upgrade Plugins
  • How to place content into sidebars using widgets, install contact forms, signup forms, flickr, twitter, facebook,, linkedin and other widgets
  • How to control spam
  • How to set an RSS feed so visitors can receive your posts or new product announcements right in their email.
  • How to build your WordPress email list (and which email provider to use for growing lists like yours
  • E Commerce - how to sell stuff on your site using PayPal.
  • Also you'll learn how to get inbound traffic to your site using social media - facebook, twitter, youtube and linkedin!

Every session you’ll also take home lots of Internet resources to investigate and apply to your site, and ideas for creating content for your site - so that you will know exactly what you want to write about for your topic to keep it interactive, well organized and fun.

By the completion of this class you will have created your own website or blog with Wordpress, and you will know how to customize, update and manage your own Wordpress website.
