WHEN: April 11, 2012, 3:30-6PM

Any organization that wants to succeed needs to be able to tell its story. Whether you are communicating with potential funders, recruiting volunteers, or developing your organization's online presence, you need effective strategies for communicating the core mission and goals of your organization. This seminar will be an excellent opportunity to learn from experts in the field how to craft the most important communications tool for your organization: a powerful story.

During the Seminar, you will hear three presentations:

Telling Your Story in WORDS with Joel ben Izzy

Telling Your Story in PICTURES with Kathleen Hennessy

Communicating with Funders with Lisa Villarreal

Refreshments will be served after the seminar, with an opportunity for open discussion and networking.

His client list includes business institutions and organizations such as Hewlett-Packard, The Federal Reserve Bank, Stanford University, Opportunity Finance Network, Enterprise Community Partners, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and Pixar Animation Studios. All six recordings of Joel's works have won awards from the American Library Association. He is based in Berkeley California, where he is a partner in Wakingstar, a story consulting service whose mission is to craft stories that shape the world.

Kathleen Hennessy is Director of the Activist Awards and Exhibitions at PhotoPhilanthropy. Prior to her role at PhotoPhilanthropy, she was the Director of Photography for the San Francisco Chronicle. Kathleen served as a staff photography editor in the Clinton White House, Washingtonian magazine and USA Today. Her contributions to nonprofit organizations include; photographer on medical missions for Operation Smile and Smile Train in Romania, Vietnam, Gaza and China; a coordinator for the National Geographic's Photo Camp, a photography program for underprivileged children. Kathleen was a Knight Fellow at Ohio University, where she earned a Master's Degree in journalism. She has taught photojournalism at Ohio University, SF State University, City College of San Francisco and UC Berkeley.

Lisa Villarreal, Program Officer for Education at The San Francisco Foundation, has over 25 years of experience in public education, serving as a teacher, counselor, and administrator at the local level, and as a director of grants and professional development programs at the county, state, and university levels, and as a national consultant.
