Description

“Word on the Street: Educating and Empowering Young Women and Girls”

Presented by Nola Brantley SPEAKS!, The Violence Prevention Program is hosting an interactive, one-day prevention conference for youth. The purpose of the conference is to educate, equip, and empower youth and provide them with tools and opportunities for discussion to prevent them from unknowingly becoming victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

The conference break-out sessions will cover the following topics:

  • An overview of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC)
  • The objectification and sexualization of women and girls
  • Risk factors for CSEC involvement
  • Dangers of the internet and social media
  • Peer recruitment and differences between a relationship with a boyfriend/girlfriend and an exploiter
  • Exploiters descriptions, tactics, and pickup lines
  • Healthy relationships
  • Empowerment

Throughout the conference, the girls and young women will review safety and resource tips to ensure that the youth know what resources are available for them and who they can reach out to for help.

The curriculum is designed for females between the ages of 13 - 18 who have not been identified as a CSEC victim.

The conference is an adapted version of the Word on the Street, Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) prevention curriculum for female youth, which was developed by Nola Brantley SPEAKS! in partnership with the Los Angeles Probation Department.
