Event description

Description

Learn how to work with wood through designing and building your own coasters. This four hour workshop, led by Willy Nicholas, will teach basic woodworking skills, tool safety, basic cutting, drilling, edge treatment, gluing, sanding and finishing. At the end of the workshop you will walk away with a set of handmade coasters and a stand for them all to fit on too. No prior experience needed.

Willy Nicholas is a craftsman who lives in San Francisco and specializes in lighting design and small batch home decor items. Much of his work is derived through a multidisciplinary approach that utilizes ink drawing and abstract composition. Using abstraction, Willy draws from his fascination with local industrial structures including bridges, architecture and machinery. Willy also draws from California’s natural structures such as cliffs, mountains and trees to inspire the compositions. He uses this process to create compelling forms that he can then transform into three dimensional creations. His work is propelled by his formal woodworking training at California College of the Arts.
