THE OMNI ENSEMBLE CONTINUES ITS 40th SEASON WITH A WIND QUINTET AND PIANO CONCERT! The OMNI Ensemble is continuing its 40th season with a performance of wind quintet and piano music on Friday evening, March 10, 2023 at 8:00 pm at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. Music Director/Flutist David Wechsler will be joined by a quintet playing Darius Milhaud’s La Cheminée Du Roi René, an arrangement of Richard Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks, Francis Poulenc’s Sextet, and David Wechsler’s Divertimento. Musicians featured are David Wechsler- flute, Jeff Reinhardt - oboe; Jeff Adler - clarinet; Atsuko Sato - bassoon; Audrey Flores - horn, & John Cheek - piano. Masks and face coverings are optional for this concert, but are encouraged, Audience members are not required to show proof of full vaccination in order to attend this event.Tickets for the event are $25.00, $15.00 for students and seniors. No’s 2 & 3 train to Grand Army Plaza, and the B or Q train to Seventh Avenue. The OMNI Ensemble is a chamber music created to perform programs of enormous variety, with music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century, including Western classical music, jazz, and electronic and improvised music, all designed to provide their audience with a musical experience not ordinarily encountered in a single music event. Since its inception in 1983 the group has featured many guest artists including multi instrumentalist/composer David Amram, performance artist John Kelley, Singer Erika Banks, Kumongo player Jin Hi Kim, Saxophonist Roy Nathanson, Mezzo Sopranos Catherine Ciesinski and Charlotte Hellekant, Harpsichordists Gerald Ranck and Rebecca Pechefsky, and keyboardist Marco Benevento. The group has commissioned works by David Lang, Lee Hyla, Allen Shearson, & Michael Bushnell, and performed new pieces by Jim Lahti, Eric Klein, and David Wechsler. This concert is made possible, in part with funds from the New York City Dept. of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, The New York State Council on the Arts, and Con Edison.

The OMNI Ensemble is a chamber music group created to perform a uniquely flexible repertoire. From the Renaissance to the contemporary Avant-Garde, the ensemble presents programs of enormous variety, all designed to provide their audience with a musical diversity not ordinarily encountered in a single musical event. Flutist/Music Director David Wechsler’s crossover style utilizes electronically treated acoustic instruments as well as the Midi wind controller for his performances and compositions. Cellist Brian Snow’s vast experience as a chamber, symphony, soloist and theater performer provide a new dimension to OMNI’s electronic and improvisatory pieces. Pianist John Cheek combines a fluency of virtuoso piano music of the past with the synthesizer as an expressive concert instrument. This variety of styles and personalities endows The OMNI Ensemble with its unique perspective.
Since 1983, the OMNI Ensemble has produced a successful concert series noted for its innovative combination of programming and guest artists. These have included Composer/Instrumentalist David Amram, Mezzo Sopranos Katherine Ciesinski, Charlotte Hellekant and Misa Iwama, Harpsichordists Gerald Ranck and Rebecca Pechevsky, Performance Artist John Kelley, Kumongo player Jin Hi Kim, Saxophonist Roy Nathanson and accordionist Guy Klucevsek. The OMNI Ensemble has released two CDs, entitled the "OMNI Ensemble plays the Music of Jim Lahti." and "Cave Paintings-The OMNI Experiment". The CDs are available by contacting the host.
The group has appeared on NPR, WNYC radio, The Voice of America, Hawaii Public Radio, WKCR, and WQXR, as well as Westchester Public Access television
