Event description
This workshop for professionals addresses how forest management can benefit wildlife conservation.

About this Event

Much of our wildlife call forests home, not only well-known game animals such as deer and turkey, but also plants, pollinators and species unique to the Carolinas. North Carolina woodland owners have the opportunity and desire to provide habitat for wildlife through active forest management while delivering wood products and maintaining forest health.

Join us for a one-day workshop for professionals to learn more about managing and balancing woods for wildlife!

Topics will include:

  • Why Woods for Wildlife?
  • Forest management with embedded wetlands: a tale of the Gopher Frog
  • Conservation Status: Terminology and Responsibilities
  • Burning for Wildlife
  • Balancing the Stool for Forest Landowners: Economics, Wildlife, and Legacy
  • Foresters for the Birds
  • Case study: How a North Carolina landowner manages for forest products
  • Tailoring it to the Trees: Wildlife practices for the young and old
  • Forest Management for Venus flytraps
  • Herbicide Selection with Wildlife in Mind
  • Financial Incentives

Content is designed for foresters, natural resource professionals, and technical assistance providers interested in achieving a balance between meeting wildlife objectives and the economics of forest ownership.

$20 registration includes lunch, training materials, and continuing education credits including:

  • Forestry: 5 CFEs pending approval
  • Conservation Planner Certification (CPC): 5
  • Pesticide: D 0.5, G 0.5, N 0.5, X 0.5

Registration closes May 27.

This workshop is also offered in Whiteville on June 6.

This event is made possible through a grant with National Fish & Wildlife Foundation and supplemental funders.

The NC Woods for Wildlife Conservation Initiative and its partners strive to engage more woodland owners in forest management and certification to enhance habitat for species of conservation concern and declining forests. Learn more.
