Event description
Fun Trap tournament to benefit the youth of the Woodcreek High School Sportsmen's Club.

About this Event

The Woodcreek High School (WHS) Sportsmen’s Club is one of twenty-six schools statewide that participates in the California Youth Shooting Sports Association (CYSSA) program. The CYSSA introduces school-age youths in grades 12 and under to the clay target sports (Trap, Skeet & Sporting Clays) and to facilitate their continued involvement in the shooting sports. The WHS Sportsmen’s Club, as a member of the CYSSA, is focused on providing, promoting, and perpetuating opportunities for young shooters to safely and enjoyably participate in a high-quality, team- based sport of trap shooting. The WHS Sportsmen’s Club is designed to instill in young people a set of personal values or character traits for fair play, compassionate understanding, individual responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline and personal commitment – qualities that will serve them well throughout their lives and will be instrumental in helping each athlete to reach his/her full potential.

The WHS Sportsmen’s Club competes in the Senior Division of the CYSSA program. Within the Senior Division, there are two levels of competition, the Junior Varsity level which is the 1st year of participation, and the Varsity level - 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of participation in Senior Division.

While competition is clearly a part of the program, it is not the underlying principle. The “win-at-all-costs” philosophy has no place in the WHS Sportsmen’s Club. Striving to win while playing by the rules does. Honoring the game, exhibiting good sportsmanship, and being a responsible team member, these are the values the WHS Sportsmen’s Club strives to instill.

Two elements of clay target sports are very important and the WHS Sportsmen’s Club focuses on instilling into each and every member of the team – SAFETY AND FUN. Safety is incorporated into every facet of shooting. The learning environment at team practices and at competitive shoots is designed to include the element of FUN for all participants. WHS Sportsmen’s Club participants learn the safe and responsible handling and use of firearms. They discover the joy of contributing to a shared Team goal and the commitment that goes along with it. During this self-discovery process, team members develop proficiency in a sport that can be shared and enjoyed with family and friends for a lifetime.

100% of proceeds obtained during this event will be used directly by members of the WHS Sportsmen's Club to offset and eliminate tournament fees associated with our six series shoots, our state tournament and attending the US Open in Las Vegas.

The Woodcreek High School Sportsmen's Club is a non-profit school based club and all donations are tax deductible (seek legal advice). If you are interested in supporting our youth please feel free to reach out to me at 916-245-0645, danmfreeman@gmail.com, or in person during one of our practices which occur must Sunday mornings between 8am and 12pm (call to confirm).

Thank you for attending our 2019 Fun Shoot and in considering our request for donations. We are always interested in ways to help those children who otherwise would not be able to participate in this sport. If you have other thoughts or suggestions please feel free to contact me.
