Description

Check the date and location carefully to make sure you are registering for the right workshop; many trainings have similar names this fall! For a full listing of Professional Development offerings, visit: http://oregoncoaststem.oregonstate.edu/educators/professional-development

Join us for a day of classroom and field learning focused on the topic of Wonderful Wetlands, and engage in Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) with your students! We will focus on field experiences, watershed literacy, and student stewardship projects.

In this workshop, participants will engage in hands-on classroom and field activities relevant to the Oregon coast, network with community partners, and explore locally-available educational materials that can be checked out and used with students. This is a repeat of the MWEEs by the Sea workshop series held in various locations along the Oregon coast last year (2017-18), and we are excited to reach new educator communities this year. Consider inviting other teachers at your school to register and attend with you!

The resources and best practices we share will support teachers to design and implement a Project Based Learning (PBL) unit this school year. Students will be invited to a Student Watershed Symposium in the Spring to share their projects with their peers and community.

This free workshop is designed for formal and informal educators of students in Grades 3-12. Lunch will be provided. Please note that part of the day will be spent outdoors, so be sure to dress for the weather.

Benefits to Workshop Participants

  • $100 stipend for attending the workshop
  • Connections to resources (curriculum, people, materials) that support PBL planning and implementation
  • Engage in classroom and field activities that model MWEEs and support PBL
  • Time to create an implementation plan
  • Lunch provided

Post-Workshop Opportunities

  • Follow up 1-hour webinar (TBD)
  • For classroom teachers, access to field trip funds during the 2018/19 school year (additional requirements)
  • Invitation to a Student Watershed Symposium in Spring 2019

Register by Nov 29. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Download a flyer and share!

Accommodation requests related to disability should be made to 541-867-0238 by November 24, 2018.

This MWEEs By the Sea educator workshop is one of four (4) Oregon Coast STEM Hub professional development offerings during the 2018/19 school year that are supported by the NOAA Bay Watershed Education Training (BWET) program. All trainings focus on Meaningful Watershed Education Experiences and culminate in a Student Watershed Symposium event, but the workshop topics and grade levels vary by location.
