Description

Who should Join?
Womxn, Trans, or Femme (WTF) individuals with a passion for street/dirt/tour cycling that are looking to build up their cycling community and empower their comrades!!! Join us on this 2.5 day bikepacking retreat in the Los Angeles National Forest staring October 11th

What is planned:
1. Day one (Friday) AM: Introductions followed by disembarking from Pasadena. We will take in the view from Mount Wilson, and will stop for an early dinner at Cosmic Cafe to commemorate the event (all participants expected to pay for their own meals at Cosmic Cafe- this is an **OPTIONAL** activity- all riders who do not want to dine at the cafe can rest and setup at the Mount Lower Campground as well).

After Cosmic Cafe, we will then ride up to the first camp site on Mount Lower Campground where we will set up camp. At night we will have the opportunity to get to know eachother better, attend a cycling workshop, a State of the Community discussion, and A DANCE PARTY.

WARNING: DAY 1 contains a 5,000 ft climb in 8 miles, please be sure to prepare for this rapid ascent.

2. Day 2- Early RISE and guided meditation/sense activity so we can be mindful of where we might have tenderness in our bodies from yesterday's ride (not mandatory but available).
We will then SHRED from the campground between Cedar Canyon and San Gabriel Peak, through Cloudburst Canyon and the Arroyo Seco and stop at Mount Lukens for some breath taking views. Our Camping Spot for this day will be rested around Mt. Lukens Rd and Earl Canyon Mountain Way

This camp night will contain "open mic" options of sharing and music- and discussion on how we would like to see events like this grow within the WTF community and how we should approach intersectionalities and increasing accessibility of bicycles to the communities we live in.

WARNING: it may be Windy at Day 2's campsite, be sure to clip your tent and paper goods down tight.

3. Day 2.5:
Wake up, Pack up, Closing Ceremony and discussions about potential future events, heading down the Los Angelinos to our original meeting point on Friday- for those interested in extending their ride experience, I will be riding to the Spoke Cafe for breakfast/brunch after, and riding my bike down the LA River Trail to Long Beach where I live.

What experience is needed?

Please bring your enthusiasm for cycling and bike life.
We also require that you have some road/dirt cycling experience and/or basic safety training as there WILL BE NO SAG TEAM. This is a free ride hosted by decently experienced cyclist, however an experienced cyclist cannot provide safety for you if you do not have familiarity or comfort riding long distances- Please DO NOT sign up for this ride if you have not cycled long distance before or if you have not rode a mountain or touring bike. If you'd like to get into bikepacking but don't know where to begin, you might be able to join us up at our first or second campsite and sit in! Email me for more info: vmgarcia5@icloud.com :)

And most importantly: YOU MUST IDENTIFY AS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TO PARTICIPATE- WOMXN, TRANS, AND/OR FEMALE. The purpose of this ride isn't just to shred in a safe space, but shred against the constructs of the patriarchy and find ways in which we can open the doors of accessibility to the tender wild while still living in our very urban communities where they may have previously been closed.

What Gear do I need?
-A BIKE with tires equipped to handle dirt roads, pavement, and uneven single track. If you are rocking a road bike with 32's or lower things could get dangerous!

-Your BAGS and RACKS: Bike touring requires much more than just going long distances; you need to keep your tent/sleeping pad, water, cooking utensils, clothing, sanitary items, tools, etc. on you at all times. I will see about potentially coordinating a car to carry what we can't- but that will not be guaranteed.

-Your tools- yes please make sure you have tire levers, a pump (handpump will do), patch kit, extra tubes, grease and chain! screwdrivers and chain tool I will have if you do not- but remember we will be sharing these tools.

WANT TO JOIN BUT DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY ALL THIS GEAR? Please e-mail me and we can talk about it! :) vmgarcia5@icloud.com

As for safety, I will try to set up some safety classes or a blog to prepare us for the event.

Please sign up- it's time to Shred the Patriarchy- and make the wilderness a place of access!
