Event description

The early years are some of the most crucial for a child’s development. One of the most important areas of development is one of the most overlooked: a child’s social and emotional skills. Dr. Lori Desautels is on a mission to ensure every child has a chance to thrive in all areas of development.

Hear Dr. Desautels discuss her journey as one of the foremost experts in the field of educational neuroscience and what has driven her to become a doctor, researcher and educator. Learn more about her ground-breaking research that focuses on how brain development is affected by adversity and trauma, the ways our stress response system functions and how parents and educators can improve the resiliency and well-being of all children and adolescents.

Following Dr. Desautels’ presentation, learn about how United Way is making an impact on the emotional health of children ages 3 to 5 through the use of behavioral health kits. These kits help children recognize and express their emotions in a healthy way while encouraging their individual personalities to blossom. Together, we will build 200 kits that will be provided to children at various early childhood education providers in Central Indiana.

Networking, hors d'oeuvres and cash bar begin at 4:00 p.m. Program begins at 4:45 p.m.
