Event description

Description

We invite you to our annual “Women’s History Month Luncheon: Lighting the Torch”, which honors the achievements of women in all facets of life and recognizes their contributions to history, society and the world.

Our 2018 speaker, Dr. Juliet García, is the first Mexican American woman to lead as president of a U.S. college or university. As a national thought leader, Dr. Garcia has devoted her life’s work in higher education focused on sustaining the democracy of our nation by empowering first generation college students and conceiving and implementing new higher education models. Her innovation and advocacy work has eliminated transfer barriers for students in the South Texas border region and changed the course of history for women, Latinos and first-generation college students.

Dr. García has been named one of the 10 Best College Presidents by TIME, The World’s 50 Greatest Leaders by Fortune Magazine, and is the recipient of the prestigious League of United Latin American Citizens National Leadership Award.

Drawing upon her experience in varied spheres of influences, it is our hope “Lighting the Torch” ignites a fire in all of us to actively improve the world around us.
