Event description

Description

Get “off the beaten” track and join us for an incredible guided Tassie women's wilderness day hike.

Meeting at Mount Field Information Centre, we will venture deep into the Florentine Valley for the day and complete 2 short hikes.

Growling Swallet

This short hike leads through some of the most pristine and breathtaking old growth forests, through Myrtle and Regnans forests, so tall you can bearly sight their tips and over 500 years old. The track leads to a place known as Growling Swallet, the entrance to the deepest cave systems in Australia. This hike will literally take your breath away as you witness the water growl and swirl as it dramatically soars and disappears into a large open limestone rock formation.

After morning tea we will make our way to The Needles.

The Needles is located on the northern edge of the Southwest National Park. This walk provides the setting for one of the most rewarding, and seemingly unknown short walks in Southern Tasmanian. Accessed via Gordon River Road this is a short but steep 3km. 2.5 hour return walk which offers uninterrupted panoramic views from rugged mountainous terrain where we will enjoy lunch!

This Wild Island Women's only adventure is suitable for ladies who can walk up to 3 to 4 hours. (Some short steep sections on the Needles).
