Event description

Description

Women entrepreneurs continue to make strides and significantly contribute to our economy's vitality, as women-owned firms account for nearly 10 million of the nation’s small businesses. However, women, especially minorities, still face unique challenges in starting and running their businesses, such as accessing capital.

In honor of National Entrepreneurship Month, Small Business Majority and Greater Southwest Development Corporation invite women small business owners to join us for an interactive presentation on financial capacity and funding options to help women entrepreneurs start and build a scalable business. During a roundtable discussion, Small Business Majority will introduce a new lending tool that will more easily connect Chicago businesses to local lenders. The roundtable will conclude with a lively armchair discussion with Ramona Thomas, owner of My Chocolate Soul, who will speak about her experiences applying for and gaining capital.

Topics of discussion include:

  • Overview of women's entrepreneurship in the United States

  • Access to capital and funding options

  • Community development financial institutions, reputable online lenders, crowdfunding

  • Five C’s of credi

  • Helpful tools and resources for Chicago entrepreneurs

This roundtable is free. Light refreshments will be served.
