Nadereh Chamlou is Senior Advisor to the Chief Economist at the World Bank's Middle East and North Africa Region. In three decade career with the World Bank, she has worked in technical, advisory, coordination, and managerial positions across the World Bank Group in such areas as economic management, private and financial sector development, infrastructure, corporate governance, and gender. In addition to the Middle East and North Africa, her country experience extends to Latin America, East Asia and Pacific, and Eastern Europe. She co-authored a World Bank flagship report on “Corporate Governance: A Framework for Implementation” (1999); was the principal author of “Gender and Development in the Middle East and North Africa Region – Women in the Public Sphere” (2003); and “The Environment for Women’s Entrepreneurship in the Middle East and North Africa Region” (2008). She has contributed articles to various journals and is a frequent speaker in international conferences.

She co-founded the World Bank/OECD sponsored Global Corporate Governance Forum which she headed its Secretariat from 1998-2000. Since 2002, Mrs. Chamlou has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Tunis based Center for Arab Women’s Training and Research (CAWTAR). She is a founding member of the Gender Economic Research and Policy Analysis (GERPA) and is a member of the Advisory Committees; Chair of Friends of the Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund, and a member of the Advisory Council of the Global Fund for Women and Girls, and the Arab International Women’s Forum. She has been Adjunct Professor at New York University’s Wagner School of Public Policy; member of the International Advisory Committee of the Netherland Business University (Nyenrode), and a member of the scientific committee of the Dutch Gender Task Force. She has a BS in Foreign Service and a MA in Economics from Georgetown University.

Charles Francis Adams Lecture Series

Charles Francis Adams or “Charlie” to those who know him well was a long-time Chairman of the Fletcher School Board of Visitors (now Board of Overseers.)

Mr. Adams, was a direct descendent of both the 2nd U.S. President, John Adams and the 6th U.S. President, John Quincy Adams. Mr. Adams was the grandson of President John Quincy Adams and was the son of Charles Francis Adams, Secretary of the Navy in the Hoover Administration.

For most of his career, Mr. Adams was the head of Raytheon, based in Lexington, Massachusetts. Mr. Adams was an avid sailor. He was actively involved with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, the U.S.S. Constitution Museum and his own alma mater, Harvard University.

Steve Robinson, his grandson, is a graduate of The Fletcher School.

The Fletcher School is proud to offer the Charles Francis Adams Lecture Series to the students, faculty, staff and community of Tufts University.
