Event description

Description

PSD invites you to the latest Board Practice Forum, which will focus on the ways in which women can forge a career as a non-executive board member.

Exploring the various pathways for women to non-executive roles has been a focus for PSD's Board Practice over the last year. Searching for and taking on a non-executive role can be a challenge such as, planning ahead to develop key skills needed to take on a role; being clear on how your current skills will add to a board; selecting a role which you can be sure will add value to your long term plan and understanding the dynamics of a new role. However, despite these challenges, a non-executive role can be very rewarding.

In light of this we are delighted that our two speakers for the afternoon will be Helen Jones and Cate Poulson.

Helen is currently the Executive Director at Caffe Nero Ltd. Prior to this Helen's executive career spans the FHCG and restaurant sectors working for Unilever, Ben & Jerry's and Diageo. Most recently she has been the Managing Director for Zizzi's Restaurants, owned by Gondola Holdings backed by Cinven.

Her non-executive portfolio is: Non-executive Director at Halfords Plc, a FTSE 250 constituent and Independent Director with Unilever for the Ben & Jerry's brand global and she is a non-executive Director at Halfords Plc, Independent Director with Unilever for Ben & Jerry and Executive Director for Caffe Nero.

Cate is the Head of External Talent for Business Growth Fund. Her remit is to develop BGF's external network on non-executive board members. She also presents at the Board Director's Programme at Henley Business School.

Before BGF Cate worked for 3i Group plc, managing the firm's relationships with senior executives and non-executives for portfolio companies. In her earlier career, Cate worked in the Private Equity practice of an international executive search firm.

Between them Helen and Cate will share their thoughts and experience on:

  • Becoming a non-executive director whilst in an international executive role.
  • The challenges and learning when taking on a non-executive role.
  • Appointing non-executives to boards.
  • How executives can improves their skills during their executive tenure.

This will be followed by an informal Q and A session with drinks and canapes

When: Thursday 8th December from 4:30pm until 6:30pm
