Event description

Description

After a multicourse buffet dinner, join Susan and Art Zuckerman during dessert and coffee to learn about the most influential and creative women of New York. Did you know that Victoria Woodhull (1838–1927) was the first woman to run for president of the United States and to petition Congress in person? Woodhull and her sister also became the first female stockbrokers and were among the first women to found a newspaper. During this presentation, you’ll hear about sites where famous women, worked, played, and loved such as the home of Jackie O. You’ll learn about artist Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) and her husband as well as anarchist “Red” Emma Goldman (1869–1940) and her attempt on Henry Clay Frick’s life. You’ll also delve into the shocking divorce of Alva Vanderbilt (1853–1933), the Sex trial of Mae West (1893–1980), and hear about Eleanor Roosevelt’s dog.

Susan Zuckerman is a former history teacher and is now a professor of history at a local college, where she wrote the curriculum for courses on New York City neighborhoods and history. She and her husband, Art, write for a local Westchester publication on secret travel and leisure tips around the New York Metropolitan area as well as for three national magazines. The Zuckermans also host a weekly radio show, Z Travel and Leisure Hour, on WVOX 1460 AM and have been selected by the Department of Tourism of New Jersey to create tours.

Price includes a multicourse buffet dinner reminiscent of the Plaza Hotel in the early 20th century and a multimedia lecture; tickets required.
